Just finished my first trip to Medford, OR and back since the fire started. Terrible devastation, but the signs of the fight are all over the hillsides and they tell the tale of the incredible heroism and heart that so many firefighters and support personnel have brought to the battle. God Bless You, All! Thank You, All!

June 2018

posted Jun 27, 2018, 6:54 PM by Michael Bray   [ updated Jun 28, 2018, 11:19 AM ]

June has been an interesting and eventful month this year. On the 19th, at 07:35, I put out my last cigarette and crumpled the remaining one in the pack. This was shortly after an unidentified bird flew into my windshield causing me to jump a bit and try to stuff the last cigarette down my throat.... I'm a bit "jumpy" in general, this was not a good morning. So I marked the time, and began the battle...

(Yes, that is the real "money saved"...at the end I was smoking American Spirit Gold ["ultralight"] exclusively...I averaged the 2018 pack cost at $9.00...yes $9.00. Thank You, California, I am sure you will spend that tax wisely...but spend quickly, addicts are actually quitting... Yes, "QuitNow!" is a great app. I paid for it years ago...)

Fortunately, a co-worker had already recommended these...and the first two packs were delivered on the 14th...

They really do help. The amount of them I have in reserve is truly embarrassing.

[define propagandists]

The current generation of propagandists are frighteningly good, regardless of who they work for. They know the new tools and the old craft.

IRL Puns Are The Best Puns

Today's IRL pun...
Colleague: Remember when 2020 seemed so far away?
Me: Yeah, I'm looking forward to the clarity...
(...and the room got deathly quiet...)

Post, Carefully, My Friends

We now live in a society where a single (stupid and abhorrent) social media post - from a celebrity or politician - in this case a "tweet," can fill the news machine and destroy a career. Also, from personal experience, posts on your social media can affect you too. Maybe not as directly as it has this particular knuckleheaded celebrity...but they can wreck relationships, complicate real life, and change your path too. Post, carefully, my friends.

Servant Song

"Brother, Sister, let me serve you,
Let me be as Christ to you;
Pray that I might have* the Grace,
To Let you be my servant, Too."

*note: the songwriter sings, "might have," not "may have." Also, I have tried to capture his phrasing in this quote.

Very Interesting...
Just a Wikipedia fail?

Fellow '89ers, I especially like the "Wind Beneath My Wings," blip around graduation time...

Marc Broussard

New - to me - artist. A new favorite.

My Boys...
“After years of trying, I’ve finally wrote one for my youngest,” Broussard says. “I can’t help but think of my children when I sing it. The song is testament to the knowledge all parents have that, one day, our children are going to fly the nest and the advice we, as parents, give them for that flight.”

I Have Made My Choice

posted Apr 23, 2018, 4:08 PM by Michael Bray   [ updated May 16, 2018, 7:58 PM ]

As I wrestle with the split in my church that will occur, "officially," eventually (we're Methodists...everything takes awhile): I have made my choice. I will stand on the side of grace, love, and acceptance and I fully accept that I might be wrong in my interpretation of those. I don't think so, but...whatever...I'm leaving that to God. Consenting adults, I don't care who you love - I don't care how you love who you love. We are all striving, failing, and striving again, to Love Like Jesus.

Still We Strive

No one,
In their right mind,
Would profess to be Christian.

It's exhausting.

You get to live your life as a doormat,
More often than not.

Also, you fail,
More often than not,
At the grace, love and peace you strive to achieve.

We strive.
Because of one, perfect, example.

Judge us as you will.

Yes, we are just as broken, maybe more,
Yes, we fail, maybe more...
We are striving, towards a True and Perfect
Example of Love and Grace,
Which is completely unachievable for us, humans...

Still, we strive.
