Tech Tip: Free Home Recording Software Suite for Windows
Revised 03.12.2006, Originally posted to blog on 11.06.2004.

Step 1: Install Kristal (http://www.kreatives.org/kristal/)

Step 2: Install Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/)

Step 3: Install HammerHead Rhythm Station (http://www.threechords.com/hammerhead/introduction.shtml)

Step 4: Open Kristal, edit preferences (Engine - Preferences):

--A. VST Effects: If you have VST Effects already saved in your Audacity Plug-Ins folder, then set
"VST Folder 1" to your Audacity Plug-Ins path - usually: c:\Program Files\Audacity\Plug-Ins, otherwise
create a new folder and put any VST plug-ins you download in there.

Note: You can find a lot of these available online for free. There are some really sweet ones here:
http://www.kjaerhusaudio.com/classic-series.php

--B. External Audio Editor: Under "Engine - Preferences - General - Controls" select Audacity
as your External Audio Editor by clicking the "Select" button and browsing to audacity.exe
(usually: c:\Program Files\Audacity\audacity.exe)

That's it! You can use Hammerhead to create rhythm tracks and just drag them into an open
track in Kristal.

If you have to tweak a track in Kristal you can click on it once to select it, then right-click on it and click on "Edit in External Editor"

NOTE: If you install some other track editor that you like better than Audacity, you can always
go back and set it as your new "External Editor" in Kristal
